SprintTimer - Photo Finish App Reviews

I have been using this app to time myself at the rc track and slot car track. Maybe I need to play with the settings some more but I think it may be picking up the car twice as it goes by or something. A minimum time input would fix this. For example, if Im running 30 sec. laps (and a 25 sec. is impossible) then I could set the minimum time to 25 and it wouldnt be able to count a lap until after 25 sec from the last lap. Also, it would be great if it beeped after counting a lap.

Essential for anyone who is doing time trials for athletes and doesnt have the resources to have 3+ coaches per athlete.

Our Accutrak camera gave it up last week. My husband took it apart and was trying to find a schematic for it when he happened across this app. Amazing!!! Although it can not be used for official time records, such as the AQHA, it works nicely for our chariot club. My husband made a holder for the ipod on a tripod and our 13 year old granddaughter took the win photos from under a covered grandstand with the track to the north side. Sometimes not the optimum lighting conditions for any camera, but the photos from this app were very clear. There are so many features and it is so user friendly. Our granddaughter downloaded the program on Saturday morning, tested it with a few "car runs" and then a "tractor run" before taking official chariot racing finish line photos on Sunday. We had some bugs with the times but with this apps extras, such as motion detecting the finish and starting the time from sound, we are excited to experiment with it. This app is wonderful. We use it to te all our meets.

I would have given this app 4 Stars prior to the release of "start sender". The Upsides of this app is that its pretty accurate to the .01. The app is simple to use and gives you plenty of timing starting and finishing methods (some of which are more accurate than others).SprintTimer is arguably the best timing app available. The Downsides of this app is that for accurate results this app cant stand alone. Its dependent upon walkie talkies, tripod, another iphone or ipad, case to secure iphone/ipad to tripod , wifi/cellular connection. And recently upon the release of Start Sender the microphone start feature is filled with bugs.

This is the first time doing an app review after more than 5 years using the iPhone and buying/using apps. This application is awesome, I just tested it in my daughter high school T&F meet and the results were really accurate. It is really remarkable how this app takes advantage of the video and sound media sources to combine them and to produce this helpful tool. Very good job!

What a great app. I coach track and field and have been using the photo finish for my meets for two years now. Will never go back to stopwatches. We run two iPads with sprinttimer and rip through all of our laned race finishes.

Ive been using this app as a lap timer for my rc car and it works great most of the time..the car maybe too fast (30+ mph) to trigger the lap timer sometimes..im not sure what the sensitivity function on the lap timer does because it doesnt seem to help with my problem...also if this would audibly call out each lap time it would rule (and id give it 5 stars)!

Love the changes you made in version 5. Thanks for making the changes to the contrast of the bottoms to make it easier to see in bright sunlight. The increase in accuracy is always welcome. The new addition of the telephoto option works well also. Dennis K

I cant believe I paid for this! It is the most cumbersome and inaccurate app I have ever purchased. Doesnt keep time properly and is NOT easy to use.

Ive been researching finish line camera systems for our cycling events and along the way found this neat little app. While SprintTimer has some limitations, it is a remarkable tool for the cost and "always in your pocket" ease-of-use. Even if you own a fancy finish line system I would highly recommend this app for use as an alternate view camera or emergency back up system. It could save your event!

I am a high school track coach. I have used it at a couple of meets and it has worked great. Every coach that sees it wants to know where they can get a copy.

With the quality of additions and refinements that Sten continues to make, Id be only spoiled for Apple to produce a fifteen inch viewing iPad! Im simply enjoying the features and has made our work here much easier as well!

We use this app at our junior high track meets on a regular basis. We have two people record with their iPhones, one person put the athletes in the order they crossed the finish line and one person to record names. This app is flawless. It does exactly what it says it does - and it does it very well. The recent updates make it even better. The release to begin the stopwatch plus the ability to pause the photo finish sequence are indispensable. Great app!

As a track coach, I needed something that could provide our team with more accurate results compared to a stopwatch. We were a little skeptical at first, but SprintTImer has been fantastic for us! We use it at every meet to time every race. I think the best feature is being able to see exactly when a runner crosses to have an exact time. I haven’t gotten the Start Timer option to work like I want it to yet but it’s not a problem. I still really enjoy this app and if you are like us who can’t afford expensive timing systems, this app is all you need.
